Personal Log Entry 03193049 06:00
Planetary Governor requested audience with Pilot Watch. Seems he’s been unofficially labeled as the group leader. I wonder why St. John is not better suited to the role. Pilot Watch informs us that the Governor has employed us to travel to Chateaux. He instructs us that covert operations is imperative as the Planet is under the Federated Commonwealth and has not requested aid. But, he believes the planet will be attacked by the invaders. He also informed Watch that the weapons from the salvaged mech have been stripped from the mech and the technicians could not ascertain their capabilities. the governor instructed the techs to mount the weapons on Watch’s Chopper. We are to test the weapons and keep detailed logs of the results. I am to take note of any medical advances and treat it as an intelligence gathering mission.

I’ve done some research on Chateaux and it is a desert planet with two main cities, some mining activity and spice farmers. I have requisitioned Desert environment gear.

We fly on “Only Men Fly Business and First Class” airlines. LaRoche and I are stuck in Coach. Which ends up being fortunate as Conrad was led to the back of the ship in irons. Better that we have deniability. The flight is uneventful.

Upon arrival, I head to the city while Watch and LaRoche reassemble the Chopper. I make note of the government offices and listen in to any talk of military activity. Watch calls over the comms and says the Chopper is ready. so, I head to meet them at the base. The leader does his initial assessment and sets ua on the task of running the base 3 times. I take the opportunity to get a read of the camp. On one of the breaks, I slip a micro transmitter into the seams of the Comms depot.

The second day an inter-camp olympics of sorts is scheduled. Pilot watch is recruited to participate in the flight challenge. I am recruited for the "fastest surgeon challenge. Pilot Watch wins his challenge and I prove to be superior to their best surgeon. I hope their camp does not see much combat given the performance of their “best”.

Heading back from the competition, I hear the call for a medic. I run over to the mechanics pool. I find LaRoche being restrained by some mechanics and a dazed looking pilot on the ground. The mechanics tell me “she lost her mind!” I sub-vocalize into the comm “Just play along.” I then draw my Tranq gun and feign pulling the trigger and make a “SSSST”. noise. LaRoche goes limp. I instruct the mechanics holding her to take her to the med tent and I head over to the dazed Pilot. He appears to have a concussion. I tell the mechanics I’m too small to carry the pilot. We head to the Med tent. When we get there, LaRoche and some of the water supply is gone. I radio Watch to let him know and begin to administer assistance to the pilot.

During the second night, Comms officer Conrad leaves a message saying that a blip on the alien frequency appeared overnight. But, it is no longer active. I go to him to get more info and then head to the chopper to wake Watch and inform him. He decides to prepare for the enemy. I suggest contacting the city to warn them and arrange transportation off planet once we test the weapon system. I head to the spaceport and locate a dropship scheduled to arrive. I pay the comms officer to repeat a message instructing the dropship to contact us thru a private channel when they arrive in space. I then head back to the base.

We arrive dirt side as command is in negoations with enemy for a cease fire. Arrive at forward base are informed of CDI’s mission parameters. Enemy broke cease fire early as attempts for peace fail. I head off to fly a few recon passes around main city when first missiles hit base. I engage mech with long range missiles. During flight I receive a priority message from Medic MacLochlon requesting pick up. Our plan is to retrieve alien damaged mech for later inspection. Chopper needs repair, alien mech hits hard. We return damaged mech to base. Get some rest and prepare for next mission.

Command calls me and Diplomat St.John and informs us that we are to proceed behind enemy lines and retrieve a missing scout, scout Dahlqvist was trapped after alerting command about on coming attack. Tanker Styger was attached to alpha squad due to the fact his tank was destroyed and alpha squad could use more fire support for this mission. On way to last known coordinates we are engaged by 2 of the enemy choppers, one is dispatched by missiles, the other required Trooper Hatter to engage from the hatch. Once in op area Medic MacLochlon takes ATV cycle out to recon area and find missing scout. I begin air cover pattern delta 2. Comms Officer Conrad is able to patch into scouts radio signal. We also pick up large search party signature. While tracking enemy search party I get message from scout requesting a diversion, I try using the outside speakers to draw their attention, does not work. So I fire missile into forest. That gets their attention. Comms informs both Scout Dahlqvist and Medic MacLochlon to proceed to extraction point. Once there I order rest of alpha squad to take up fire positions to protect incoming friend lies. A mech arrives on scene, I do what is unexpected. I fly up as close to mech as possible, make it harder to fire missiles at us. Once all friend lies are aboard I head out. Medic MacLochlon has an idea, she latching on to repelling locks and proceeds to drop on to enemy mech and places a Hull Breaching charge onto mechs pilot area. Mech is damaged, pilot is fine seems enemy mech has separate pilot compartment.

Upon return to base we see that enemy has breached our lines and are in the city, we return to city under heavy attack. Upon arrival at space port where we are informed that city is falling and we should bug out. Command of Skinner’s Scimitars is in battle allowing civi’s to fall back to space port. I inform MacKenzie that I along with any volunteers will be picking up civi’s, transporting them to space port. On last trip comm’s pick up Commands transponder informing us that his mech is down , I head to last known area and find Command is injured but alive. Upon pick up Medic MacLochlon begins first aid, as we return to space port. We noticed that some of the enemy troops are wearing uniforms of troopers from fallen planets.

WTF happened?

We are on Planet Allegehe.
They fired before the treaty was up.
Rene Gade saved the soup but says I don’t get any of it.
We meet Heinrich, an unlikable tank captain.
We take the chopper out.
I see a Westwind vehicle with nonstandard machine guns mounted to the side.
I shoot some bad guys, and then we escape in the chopper.
Evidently we captured a mech, and I start studying it in the chopper on the way back.
We made 75,000 credits each.
We get 110 XP.

Battletech—ATOW—March 17, 3050

We were assigned to provide air cover for Skinner’s Scimitars on Allegehe. Their two heavy lances, medium lance, and electronic warfare lance combine with two tank regiments and an infantry regiment in order to try to stave off this alien incursion. We are basically hired to provide air cover for 50K plus favors, salvage, fuel and ammo. Fortunately, we had the salvage rights because we were able to “rescue” one of the alien units—rather a strange configuration, actually. It seemed like an Atlas and was painted in a scheme reminiscent of Draconis Combine Red. It truly wasn’t difficult to target the alien scum.

Our drop ship dropped us SE of the capitol and we were only able to have a short briefing before the alarms sounded and the “little person” commanding us immediately assigned us to different duty stations. Strangely, while I was assigned to the front trenches, our most experienced mercenary, Rene, was assigned to the cook tent. Imagine, the most proficient fighter in the unit wielding a ladle instead of a laser rifle.

Some of us were able to successfully concentrate our fire, but Jack Adder was unable to grasp the concept. He managed to commit collateral damage upon my person, Rene’s person, and the soup. Indeed, even the enemy managed to hit the soup tureen, crying “Soup must die!”
By the time we had finished firing on ourselves, the alien infantry came over the top. Fortunately, a couple of Coventry hand rockets took out a few and my laser rifle was considerably more consistent than Jack Adders’.

Most impressive was the use of the helicopter to salvage the “Atlas.” I’m certain we can get it going.

Personal Log Entry 03163049 06:00
Watch and St.John are called to the commander’s tent. They are briefed that one of the company’s scouts hasn’t been heard from and they want us to go track him down and retrieve him. They offer to provide flack support. The commander also assigns Tank Commander Heinrick Steiger to us. I guess his tank was destroyed and is of no use to the commander as a line troop.

We head out and have no conflict thanks to the shelling for most of the trip. Comms officer Conrad reports blips on the radar. Enemy chopper attacks. Pilot Watch and Combat Specialist Hatter manage to shoot the enemy craft down and the rest of the trip is uneventful.

Upon arrive at the last location the scout reported from, we find nothing. Pilot Watch is hesitant to risk the group by landing. So, I offer to go down and try to track the craft. I put on my stealth suit, Ready my newly acquired motorcycle and head out the cargo loader door. I find traces and follow them. The tracks disappear shortly after entering the woods. I spread out to try and find more traces. My head discovers a well hidden vehicle. I tap out Mrse code to identify myself and see if there is anyone inside after relaying a description up to the chopper. A young trooper emerges from under the camo netting. I ask for Name, Rank and Serial Number. He responds with identifiers that match the medical records for Scout Dahlqvist. I inform the scout that we have been sent to retrieve him. I instruct him to wait while I go to get my bike.

As I get close to where my bike was hidden, I hear voices. I sneak around the voices, pick up my bike and walk it back to the vehicle. I hear the scout on the comm channel saying that he needs a distraction. Pilot Wake (I assume) provides it in the form of an explosion. I comm to the Scout to get his vehicle going and follow me. We ride as fast as I am able without endangering my life by crashing into a tree. Shots ring out and I feel bullets whiz past. One foolish troop walks in front of my bike and I lance kick him out of the way. We clear the forest into the clearing and I drive up the loading ramp into the chopper, dismount and start to chain the bike to the rear wall to make room for the Scout Vehicle. While chaining the bike, I feel the floor shake and feel a sinking feeling in my lower intestinal tract.

I run to my room and grab one of the Breach charges. I instruct Pilot Watch to fly over the mech. I clip myself into the side of the cargo door and leap out when I see the mech below. I land on the mech, clamp the breach charge onto the mech and start climbing the tether back up to the chopper. The blast wave of the charge pushes us forward and I spin on the rope to see a nice large hole in the cockpit. Unfortunately, the breach charge did not puncture the pilot’s Inner Shell. Next time, I’ll plant a secondary delay charge. We leave the enemy reeling and head back to HQ.

Smoking craters and unmanned trenches greeted us at the HQ. No signs of life. All the Mechs (including our salvage) are gone. No records of any kinds remained. Comms officer Conrad attempts to reach the city and hears sounds of combat. We decide that the spaceport is our next objective and head there without delay. As we approach the spaceport, drop pilot McKinzie informs us that we need to load up and get moving. She also tells us that the commander has transported our salvage. It’s rare to find an officer willing to honor salvage. I hope he makes it off the planet. He seems to be a good man. Pilot Watch suggests we help those heading to the spaceport while we wait for a loading time.

Comms office Conrad sees the blip for the commander’s mech pod light up. We decide to pick him up. We find his pod open and the Commander trading shots with some enemy troops. Pilot Watch yells for the Commander to get in the chopper. He climbs aboard. I administer to the Commander’s wounds and sedate him so he may get some rest. We head to the spaceport and leave the planet. As we exit the city, we see local defense force as well as the mining company from our first mission. Pilot McKinzie gets us off planet with no issues.

Personal Log Entry 03153049 06:00
No Work lately. Various planets have fallen from attacks by mysterious faction according to the newscasts. We finally get a call to head to Alleghe to provide air support the Skinner’s Scimitars. Upon finding the leader, Gade proceeded to try to leave. We were taken to the front line just in time for a new assault to happen. Conveniently, I was assigned to the Med tent.

Sirens Wail and the medics head from the tent into foxholes. I run to the nearest and jump in. Shells begin to fall along the lines. I hear the calls of Medic and run to the trench that disappeared in smoke. As I enter the trench, I see one of the veteran medics working on one of the men. I find one of the men with most of his body still intact and patch him enough to send him to the Med tent. I continue to administer field dressing and setting bones until I hear the sound of troops charging over the far off trench. I look over the trench wall to see one of the small mechs advance towards my position. I relay the information to Pilot Watch and look for weapons to use.

I manage to find a support laser. After managing to get it semi-stabilized, I take my shot and score some damage to the torso. It retaliates and hits the laser which sends shrapnel into my face and blinds me. I’m a little dazed. But, I hear the other medic rush over and get me onto a Hoverboard and send it back to the Med Tent. This is not going well. As soon as I get back to the med tent, I start to wash my eyes vigorously and removing shrapnel to get myself back to battle ready status.

Hearing our chopper heading back towards the front line, I call to Pilot Watch and request a lift to the Mech. My vision has cleared enough where I am able to make it to the mech. I head to my compartment (which now has a gaping hole in the wall, Remove my fatigues and activate my stealth suit. I grab the requisitioned Hull breaching Frame and ready myself to rappel onto the enemy mech. Fortunately, Pilot Watch launched two rockets as we approached and turned the cockpit into a flaming hole. Thankfully I don’t have to put myself into danger’s way to take down the beast. I clip my rappelling harness to the wall and strafe enemy troops as they retreat. We eventually head back and pick up the team to salvage the enemy mech. I go about patching up wounded while the others return.

We are met at the loading dock by Edeen McKenzie (6’2" 120 lbs. Female with one arm. From Lyran Commonwealth. Blond Hair, Grey Eyes. Seems fit. Although full physical hasn’t been performed in some time. MEDICAL NOTE: Schedule time with McKenzie to perform physical. Seems foolish to have a drop pod pilot with outdated physical records. Psych profiles say she is prone to flashbacks of assault on ComStar.

Upon arrival on Oberan 6, the Helicopter is unloaded from the dropship very efficiently. We fly to the quarry with no incident other than strange music emanations from the communications system. We are told by the foreman that the cargo boxes are protected by biometric lock systems that arm an implosive charge. Seems a bit overkill. But, they seem a little paranoid. The crews load the cargo and we make three runs between the dropship and the quarry.

On return from the third run, communications officer Conrad picks up some suspicious transmissions from orbit attempting to ascertain the military disposition of the planet. Comm Officer informs Pilot Watch. We rush to find a loader to get the helicopter onto the dropship. Pilot Watch informs Pilot McKenzie that we would be leaving hot. I suggest that this was not a wise decision given Pilot McKenzie’s psych profile. I volunteer to observe the pilot to make sure she has no psychotic lapses. I gather my tranquilizers and head to the bridge of the dropship.

As we proceed to lift off, we observe numerous droppods landing and disgorge small Mech-looking armor suits. The combat armor units attack and demolish a light mech on the side of the planetary defense. Seeing this, Pilot McKenzie hits the throttle and we rocket into space under a barrage of missle fire from the combat armor units. Fortunately, the drop ship was up to the task. Unfortunately, the amount of ships in orbit and the amount of fire we took led to some damage to the ship. Untrained as I was, I felt it better to man one of the ship’s weapons rather than not offer any resistance from the ship. Fortunately, others took up weapons as my fire was mostly ineffectual. Finally, Pilot McKenzie was able to safely jump away from the combat.

A few of the mechanical crew took wounds. I went to the engineering deck to tend to their wounds. The month-long trip back was very long but uneventful. Upon landing, we were met by a number of high ranking individuals and an armed guard. They took us to an interview room and took our debrief as well as Comms officer Conrad’s recording. Pilot Watch received a high medal and rank while the rest of the groups received the Liberty Cross for Military Merit for our service to the Realm.

Upon arrival on the planet, we find that some of the liquor in the container we are supposed to deliver had the seals damaged. We spent some time procuring adequate replacement. I resealed the bottles and disguised the broken casing for the corks.

As Mr. St.John left the general store, a small Chiroptera flew in his path. Mr. St.John actually drew his vibroblade on the Chiroptera. Chiroptophobia? More study necessary.
END MEDICAL NOTE

The clients received the package and proceeded to distribute the alcohol to the members of the crew. I chose to not partake. Our pilot frighteningly accepted. The alcohol seemed to not agree with Mr. St. John’s constitution. I offered him a remedy. But, he denied the need. the clients asked us to deliver a package back to the Major.

A short while after we touched off in Mr. Brink’s helicopter, we started to draw fire from a truck. I made sure the supply crates were all secured in a safe manner. I’m told Mr. Brink disposed of the threat. The rest of the flight was fortunately uneventful.
